Battlemorph on Wikipedia

Battlemorph is a 1995 shooter video game developed by Attention to Detail (ATD) and published by Atari Corporation for the Atari Jaguar CD. It is the sequel to Cybermorph (1993), a pack-in game for the Atari Jaguar. Taking place 30 years after the events of the original game, the player pilots the morphing infiltration fighter War Griffon in an extermination mission against the Pernitia empire, which plans to launch a full-scale invasion to eradicate humanity and take over the galaxy after being pushed back to their home planet. The player is tasked with various objectives, while fighting against enemies and bosses, across eight galaxy clusters in order to liberate them from control of the empire.

The best game on the Jaguar CD — and the redemption of the console's worst first impression.

Attention to Detail made Cybermorph, the pack-in that opened the platform badly, and pitched the sequel immediately — wanting to implement everything they couldn't fit and apply techniques they'd only figured out late. Set 30 years on, you pilot the morphing War Griffon across eight galaxy clusters, and crucially you can go underwater and underground, not just fly over terrain. The CD format bought texture-mapped environments, real audio, and no cartridge ceiling. Everything Cybermorph reached for, achieved — still the title Jaguar CD owners point to first.

Before you buy

The first disc to buy for the add-on. Jaguar CDs have reduced error correction versus standard CD-ROM — light scratches can be fatal here, so only trust discs test-played on hardware, and price untested copies well below tested ones.
