About Brain Dead 13

In Braindead 13, the player takes on the role of a young computer expert who one day is called to fix a computer at some scary castle and in no time flat, finds himself in trouble. It is up to the player to use the complex moves of an interactive movie to escape from the castle. This animated adventure is basically based on the player's judgment on which direction you think the character might go, and if the player guesses wrong, death.

Brain Dead 13 is an interactive movie video game developed and originally published in North America by ReadySoft on 15 December 1995 and in Europe by Empire Interactive in the same year for MS-DOS. Unlike Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, which began as laserdisc arcade games, it was only released for personal computers and video game consoles. In the game, players assume the role of young computer expert Lance Galahad to defeat Dr. Nero Neurosis at his castle and its residents. Its gameplay is primarily presented through the use of full-motion video (FMV).

ReadySoft's third and best interactive movie — the one that knows what it is.

The only one of the three ReadySoft discs they originated rather than converting from a Bluth laserdisc: Lance the computer technician answers a service call at a castle and spends the game pursued by Fritz, a hunchbacked assistant with an axe. The animation is genuinely funny, the death scenes are elaborate, and the humor holds up better than Dragon's Lair's earnestness. Still a quick-time game — but self-aware about it.

Before you buy

The priciest of the interactive-movie discs by a wide margin — a late-1996 release with a small run. At these values, hardware-tested condition is non-negotiable.
