Panic Bomber on Wikipedia

Bomberman: Panic Bomber is a 1994 puzzle video game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine on December 22, 1994. It was later released for the Neo Geo, Super Famicom, X68000, FM Towns, NEC PC-9821, Virtual Boy, and PlayStation Portable. It saw a re-release for the Wii and Wii U's Virtual Console services. Panic Bomber is a falling block game with the players' goal being to clear matching blocks using bombs, ensuring their screen does not fill and that their opponents' screens do. It received mixed to positive reception, identified as a decent game by multiple critics. It has been compared to the falling block puzzle game Tetris. The Virtual Boy version received a mixed reception for its handling of the platform's visual capabilities.

Virtual Boy prices, all games & how to spot a fake

Konami's Bomberman rights are why this isn't on Switch — and why the cartridge is still the only way to play.

A falling-block puzzle with Bomberman characters, ported to the Virtual Boy from the PC Engine and SNES versions. Good, not remarkable — it does almost nothing with the 3D display. Its absence from Nintendo Switch Online is the most explicable of the holdouts: Konami acquired Hudson and still actively publishes Bomberman, so licensing an old spin-off to Nintendo would faintly compete with its own product. Compare Vertical Force — same original publisher, dormant IP, licensed without apparent trouble.

How it was made

Hudson published it, but Raizing developed it — the studio better known for dense arcade shoot-'em-ups, an odd fit for a falling-block puzzler and a name collectors recognise. Japan got it on launch day; North America waited five months.

Before you buy

The Japanese version (titled Bomberman: Panic Bomber) is much cheaper for the same game. Text is minimal. Low counterfeit risk.
