About Cannon Fodder
Cannon Fodder is an action-strategy shoot 'em up game developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive. The game is military-themed and based on shooting action but with a strategy game-style control system. The player directs troops through numerous missions, battling enemy infantry, vehicles and installations. Cannon Fodder has a darkly humorous tone which commentators variously praised and condemned. Its creators intended it to convey an anti-war message, which some reviewers recognised, but the Daily Star and a number of public figures derided the game. In other respects, reviewers highly praised the game, which widely achieved scores of over 90% in Amiga magazines. Amiga Action awarded it an unprecedented score, calling it the best game of the year.

Electronic Gaming Monthly's Best Atari Jaguar Game of 1995 — priced like filler.
Sensible Software's squad-tactics classic: direct a tiny squad through top-down missions where cover matters, approach angles matter, and losing a man is permanent. Every dead soldier gets a headstone on a hill outside the recruitment hut, and the hill fills up while the theme song stays jaunty — Sensible always insisted it was an anti-war game, and the mechanism is making death cheap, funny, and cumulative until the accumulation stops being funny.
EGM named it Best Atari Jaguar Game of 1995, and Next Generation's reviewer called it the best game on the platform outright. The consistent criticisms were fair: the sprites are very small, and without mouse control the Jaguar pad makes precise unit direction slower than the Amiga original.
Before you buy
Common and inexpensive — which is the anomaly: a Game of the Year winner priced as catalogue filler, and alongside Power Drive Rally the most mispriced cart on the platform. Virgin packaging, not Atari. No repro risk.
