A text-and-exploration adventure on a handheld — ambitious, slow, and unlike anything else in the library.
Hand Made Software developed it and Atari published it in 1991. It adapts Stoker directly, casting you as Jonathan Harker in a first-person adventure with inventory and puzzle-solving rather than action. On a machine sold on sprite scaling, that is an odd fit, and it is the closest the Lynx has to a graphic adventure.
It was announced as the first four-megabit Lynx game and shipped at two, with reviewers at the time noting the downgrade and passing the four-meg distinction to Pit-Fighter. The missing capacity shows: there is no save or password feature, which is a real problem in an adventure game.
It is on the Evercade Atari Lynx Collection 1 cartridge.
Before you buy
Low risk and cheap. A reading-heavy game is the one genre where the original dim screen genuinely hurts, so this is a strong argument for a modded console or the Evercade version.
