A decent conversion of the arcade ape-man platformer that arrived after the joke had worn off.

Atari developed and published the 1992 Lynx version of TAD Corporation’s arcade game. GamePro’s review is a fair summary: like its arcade big brother it is a beautiful-looking game, using the Lynx’s full palette for smooth animation and sharp detail, with clear sound effects — especially Toki’s digitised “Yearrgh” every time he takes a hit. What none of that fixes is that Toki was a mid-tier arcade platformer to begin with.

It hides an Easter egg documented at the time: hold Up and press Option 1 before the title screen appears, then hold both buttons through the whole intro sequence, and you reach a “freak-out mode” where the buttons trigger wild audiovisual effects. Never re-released. Its sealed price sits slightly BELOW its complete-in-box price, which reflects thin sold data rather than a real inversion.
